John Young Brown served as governor of Kentucky from 1891-1895. A Democrat, his administration was marked by dissension within the ranks of his party, and problems in working within the framework of a new state constitution. Born in 1835 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Brown earned a degree from Centre College and entered the practice of law.
